Why We Started

Founder Tim Crowell launched Faven in 2023, following more than a decade of experience in cannabis grows. Once legalization occurred, he stepped away from the industry to pursue studies at UC Davis, where he was introduced to LED lighting. 

After graduating in 2020, he began working in a commercial grow and R&D facility in Sacramento, where he began experimenting with under canopy systems.

At the time, even he was skeptical, but he kept seeing positive results. Plants were not only producing more flower, but also more consistent flower from top to bottom. The addition of under canopy lighting positively affected color, density, structure and almost eliminated low-value SKUs such as smalls or B-buds. 

After his time at the R&D facility, he moved on to consulting, where he continued experimenting with under canopy lights. He became frustrated with the quality of the under canopy lights that were available at the time because none of them were designed specifically for lighting underneath the canopy.

So he built his own.

Since starting Faven, Tim has not only seen consistent growth in cannabis facilities after installing UC lights, but has discovered new benefits and strategies for leveraging light from a whole new angle. He’s still, along with the team at Faven, learning and experimenting with new methods, and different and more precise ways to use the light spectrum to give growers all the tools they need to perfect their crop.

Tim started out as a grower and built a team of cultivators and experts at Faven who know how hard it can be in this business. That’s why everything begins and ends with the question, “How will this improve life for growers?” Anything made for indoor cultivation should be easy to use and add a clear benefit. That’s our driving philosophy.
